Eid Al Adha

‘And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead, We called to him, “O Ibrahim, You have fulfilled the vision.” Indeed, this is how we reward the doers of good. Indeed, this was the clear trial. And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice, And We left for him [favourable mention] among later generations.’ (Qur’an, 37: 103-11)🌕

An anticipated celebration in many households, Eid Al-Adha, the festival of Sacrifice is also the story of Prophet Ibrahim(as) and the sacrifice, which contains life lessons for kids and adults alike.

Prophet Ibrahim (as) was an exemplar in his submission to Allah (swt), sincerity in worship, earning him the title Khalilullah (The Close Friend of Allah). He was commanded by Allah (swt) to leave his son with his mother in an arid desert, with no provisions other than their reliance upon Allah (swt). It was a great test to be befall Ibrahim (as) and his family.

Yet as a result of Ismael and Hagar being left in Makkah, Allah (swt) gave them Zam Zam and sent the people of Jurhum to settle there. Makkah became a major city- its founders the family of Ibrahim (as). If that wasn’t enough then came another trial that ultimately gave Ibrahim and his family a great status and made their actions cherished rituals of Haj, Umrah and Qurbani, to be followed and imitated by millions of people for generations to come.

Each year, we celebrate Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah (swt) and the mercy that Allah (swt) bestows upon us when we submit to His commands. We are reminded of the importance of trusting Allah (swt), through this story and the inspirational example.

In the face of difficult trials if we overcome the whispers of shaytan and instead have patience, faith and submit to Allah’s (swt) will and obey Him even if we find it difficult to do; He will help us in ways we could never imagine.

“And whosoever has Taqwa of Allah, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide for him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allah has set measure for all things. [65:2-3]🌙
