Masjid An-Nabawi - Medina
He ﷺ noticed. When the black woman who used to clean the mosque died, the Prophetﷺ felt her absence. Learning of her death, he asked "Why did you not inform me?” So he ﷺ went to her grave and offered her funeral prayer.
When his servant, a young Jewish boy who used to run errands or fetch water for him didn’t show for work; he noticed. When the Prophet ﷺ asked after the boy, he learnt he had taken ill. So the Prophet ﷺ went to visit his home and upon seeing the boy he had grown fond of gravely ill and bed bound, he ﷺ sat down by his head and asked after him out of compassion. Then fearing he was near death’s door the Prophet ﷺ said; “Embrace Islam.”
The boy looked at his father imploringly who sat beside him and though not a Muslim his father knew that the Prophet ﷺ to be truthful. He turned to his son and said:
“Obey Abu al-Qasim (i.e The Prophet ﷺ), my son.” So the boy who in his brief time in this world in which he had come to know the Prophet ﷺ so well in his service finally embraced Islam and uttered the declaration of faith. He took his last breaths and his soul departed from this world a believer.
Muhammad ﷺ was a Prophet and a leader. Imagine how many people he ﷺ had met in his lifetime through the course of his mission and duties, yet his sense of humanity was so great. From amongst his company were those from the most humble walks of life, whether of different faiths, men or women, black or white, young or old; they wouldn’t escape his notice, care or attention. This is the legacy the Prophet ﷺ left, so by the same manner did his successors tread in his footsteps with humility.
Umar ibn al Khattab(ra) would walk the streets to affirm for himself the people (no matter their faith or colour) were well and taken care of under his leadership. And when Umar(ra) liberated Jerusalem he personally with his own hands alongside his army cleaned the area of Temple Mount that had been previously used by Byzantine as a garbage dump to offend the Jews. Then Umar(ra) went about building Masjid al-Aqsa on the blessed land, creating a society of tolerance and respect in accordance to the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings.🌙
